When you are in a village, you learn to be a part of a larger family, not just your own.” – Sudha Murthy, The Magic of Lost Temple

The Story :

The Magic of the Lost Temple follows a girl named Anoushka, affectionately called Nooni, who lives in the bustling city of Bangalore. For her summer vacation, she must stay with her grandparents in the quiet village of Somanahalli, Karnataka. Initially, Nooni is not pleased about this change; she finds the village slow and boring, vastly different from her vibrant city life filled with activities and friends.

However, as time passes, she begins to appreciate the charm of the village. She helps her grandmother with chores, learns how to create new things, and enjoys simple pleasures like riding a bicycle. Most importantly, she makes new friends who introduce her to the village.

The real adventure starts when she hears an old tale about a lost stepwell—a beautiful, ancient well that has been hidden for a long time. Intrigued, Nooni and her new friends decide to become explorers and set out to find it. Their quest takes them through fields and forests, teaching them about teamwork and the importance of curiosity.

The book is a heartwarming tale about finding joy in simple things and the magic of nature. It teaches us that even in a small village, there are grand adventures to be had and that true treasures are often found in family and friendship.

My thoughts on the book :

As I turned the pages, I felt like I was going on a secret trip. The words painted such a clear picture in my mind! I could almost feel the warm sunshine and hear the birds singing in the village. It felt like I was right there with the kids, helping them on their big adventure. My heart felt a little bit fluttery with excitement, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to find out what happened next.

When I finally closed the book, I had the biggest smile on my face. My heart felt so happy and full! It was like I had just come back from a wonderful holiday, even though I was just sitting in my comfy chair.

This book taught me something really special. It taught me that magic isn’t just in fairy tales with wizards and dragons. Real magic is in the simple things, like laughing with your grandparents or discovering a new place with your friends. The book showed me that the best treasures aren’t shiny gold coins. The best treasures are the good feelings and happy memories you make with people you love.

If you want to feel happy, curious, and ready for your own adventure, you should definitely read this book!
